I don't go along with this good owners, bad owners bollocks. If you own one you are a cunt. For even wanting one you are a cunt. They are bred to be violent, and they are killing people, They should cull all of them, there should not even be a discussion about this. Have owned a dog - bought ostensibly for my daughters but turned out that their mother only wanted it as a breeding machine, knocking out puppies (any breed) to "teach her kids about the facts of life".
Admittedly never a "dog person" but always treated her with respect - so much so that, apparently, like the kids, she was a little sod while I was away at work, but as good as gold the moment I came home.
I always seemed to be the one who took her out for her daily walk, which inevitably resulted in my ex claiming I never spent enough time at home/with her.
The dog did stink the house out though.

So, basically, they need to be re-domesticated.
How long did it take for the aggressive characteristics of the wolf to be bred out and dogs start to be "man's best friend"?
Are we looking at similar timescales (and ongoing fatalities) here?
I'd answer the question myself, only I wasn't around at the time and can find no contemporary documentation on the subject.

OK, so "Pit" as in Cock Pit then. where cockerels, bred specifically for fighting - and for no other reason - (a practise surprisingly popular today in both Asia and "underclass Europe", even today, occurs.)
At least the losing cockerel ends up in a stew/curry, so, not all bad.

I'm thoroughly confused by what a "bully dog" is even after reading this:

The picture looks like a mutt with a bit of bull mastiff bred with some smaller dog. What about actual recognized breeds like the bull mastiff or doberman or american staffordshire terrier? From the article, it sounds like a bully dog is whatever the government says is one. What if a "bully dog" is bred with say a golden retriever, does it's offspring cease to be one or does it depend on the coat and size?
I fully support dropping the hammer on bad owners, but these type of bans always seem unworkable to me for an inability to actually identify the type of dogs in question. As sold has pointed out, even the title "pit bull" is problematic as it is not a recognized breed.
I had a mutt that was half american staffordshire and some brindle hound. She made it 15 years, and on more than one occasion, I had people complain to me about owning a "dangerous breed". I found her at 8 weeks on the side of the highway before you could even see any breed in her. In reality, she was incredibly sweet and never harmed anyone. She was just muscular.

Everyone has different tastes Tom.... I mean some people like women with massive arses... can't see it myself... would fancy my chances with a XL anyday rather than a fat arsed woman sitting on my face and suffocating me.... personally can't get my head round Labradoodles and the like... do nothing for me whatsover... especially when they are twice the price of a pure bred Field Trial Champ Lab .... but they and their ilk are massively popular... we all have different tastes and I suppose there are a good few XL owners that love that breed and look after them well..... and then you have the Cunts.

Apparently due to covid, dogs bought in that time were never socialised properly or could attend puppy classes, so have huge social and anxiety issues, XL bullies were THE dog to buy in covid. So that along with the wankers that bought them is the issue.
